Welcome to the matrix. This website, my portfolio, is one of the most challenging projects I’ve worked on: aside from deciding on graphic guidelines, writing content, creating visual assets, thinking structures in CMS layouts, and development, my taste and skills evolved as I moved forward in the project, creating constant room for change and improvement, forcing me to set boundaries and to stay focused on the essentials.
For my portfolio, I immediately had a clear vision of what I wanted. A clean, simple website with subtle, smooth interactions, touches of joyful colors, and a warm and personal tone of voice. I wanted my visitors to know me and how I work after they have been on my website.
To avoid confusion and visual saturation with the many branded content I imported, I used a single neutral but warm color for the background, and clean, easy-to-read fonts for written content.
Throughout the entire website and especially on project pages, I made sure to alternate between textual and visual content to create rhythm in the reading and to give context to my work.
Project pages being CMS pages meant two things: 1) preparing visual and textual assets to stay coherent not only on their individual pages but also across all project pages, and 2) taking development into account in the design process to pre-think properties and to maximise efficiency and feasability.
Soft animations guide the attention to different content, and creates a friendly, easy rhythm, both inviting the user to take their time and showing a glimpse of my calm and steady personality.
